Day 2 - RBR17

Rust Bucket Rally: Day 2 - Done!

All I can say is What.A.Day!!!

We set off bright and early from Lausanne at 7.30am and made a detour all round Lake Geneva to take in the beautiful scenery! We then headed for the Great St Bernard's Pass, on some awesome winding roads before heading up through the Alps, finding time for a snowball fight and the attempt of a snow angel!
Of course then the roads got steeper and windier and what goes up, must come down..which didn't work out so well for Jessica Ilenkiw and Myles Reid-Smith who's car decided it didn't need the brakes anymore! Our most qualified engineer advised they'd "boiled" the brakes and his thermal imaging camera (don't ask..we thought the same ) showed +150 degrees! Scorching some might say.
We take in the views while the cars cool down and set off on our way, but alas, the brakes go once again. Thankfully, we had our very own support vehicle in the form of 4 legends who go by "fingers crossed" - so after an hour or so, drained and refilled break fluid we thought we were on our way, so headed for the Mont Blanc tunnel.
Although, this isn't how the Rust Bucket Challenge works is it? Oh no..they went for good and had to accept defeat and call for Breakdown.
That left the rest of us with a 9 hour drive until we reached Barcelona. What else could possibly go wrong you ask? Driving back in to France and face the worst driving conditions - torrential rain, thunder and fork lighting. Who was at the wheel? Yours truly! (Yay!)

The walkie talkies & Racing (Sally the Saab is reining champ FYI) kept us going all the way into Espaniol and we finally reached the hotel in Barcelona at midnight, only some 5 hours late.
Porta Rossa are picking up a hire car and will meet us enroute to Bordeaux so we'll be reunited once again!

Until tomorrow...
